1. Tyres

✅ Check tread depth (minimum legal is 1.6mm)
✅ Look for uneven wear or damage
✅ Check tyre pressure monthly (and before long trips)

2. Oil Level

✅ Check dipstick regularly
✅ Top up if needed using the correct oil type
✅ Book a service if oil looks thick or dirty

3. Brakes

✅ Listen for grinding or squeaking
✅ Check if the car pulls to one side under braking
✅ Spongy pedal? You may need brake fluid or repairs

4. Coolant / Antifreeze

✅ Check coolant level when engine is cold
✅ Top up with correct mix if below min level
✅ Prevents engine overheating or freezing

5. Lights & Indicators

✅ Walk around and test all lights — front, rear, indicators, brake, fog
✅ Replace any bulbs that are out
✅ Carry spare bulbs when travelling long distances

6. Wipers & Windscreen Wash

✅ Make sure blades clear water effectively
✅ Refill washer fluid
✅ Replace worn wiper blades for better visibility

7. Battery Health

✅ Check for slow engine cranking or dim lights
✅ Clean terminals if corroded
✅ Consider a battery check before winter

8. Dashboard Warning Lights

✅ Don’t ignore warning lights — especially red or flashing ones
✅ Book a diagnostic check if unsure

9. Exhaust System

✅ Listen for unusual noises (rattling, blowing)
✅ Check for fumes inside the cabin
✅ May indicate a leak or loose fittings

10. MOT Expiry Date

✅ Check your MOT due date at gov.uk/check-mot-status
✅ Book early to avoid last-minute stress
